The Objectives & the Opportunities

The Anglian Maritime Trust was established to maintain British maritime heritage in East Anglia, centred on the historic Port of Lowestoft, and linked to the famous Broads network of rivers and lakes.

Maintaining the skills

Maritime Heritage is not just historic vessels, but also the skills to build, maintain, restore and operate those vessels. The Trust uses its assets to provide training in these areas of maritime heritage, aboard its vessels, alongside and ashore. All of the Trust's trainers are skilled and validated to work with young people.

Maintaining the vessels

The Trust has a programme of acquisition and restoration to provide a growing fleet of vessels that will provide experience on inland waters and at sea. This provides a opportunity to preserve by operation former military patrol and support craft. As the project develops, some other types of craft will be introduced to extend the range of experience available to those with special needs.

Youth Training

The Anglian Maritime Trust offers a range of training options for young people, and the young-at-heart, to maintain the proud British maritime heritage.

In serving the community, the Trust provides an opportunity for all young people to experience the excitement, team building, and confidence building of sailing on ex-military patrol vessels. The unique advantage of the Lowestoft base is that trips include a gentle passage through Mutford Lock, up the river network to Norwich, then along the Yare to Great Yarmouth, before a short sea passage back to Lowestoft. By fully maintaining a sea going capability longer sea voyages are arranged, crossing the North Sea to visit neighbouring countries.

Alongside and ashore training is available, including seamanship, maintenance and engineering.

Special Needs

The Anglian Maritime Trust provides maritime heritage experience for all, including those with special needs. A major effort is made to provide safe experience for all. Where the risk policy, operated to ensure safety at all times, imposes restrictions and requires qualifications, the Trust is working to introduce new facilities to improve and expand access.

Corporate Use

The Anglian Maritime Trust provides training and entertainment packages for Corporate use. The cost of operating a fleet of vessels to maintain our maritime heritage and offer experience to youth groups and young people at affordable costs requires funds from several sources. Corporate Sponsorship and Use is a very important source of funds for the Trust.

Standard and special packages are available, including shore facilities. Whether for corporate entertainment, team building, or reward, the trust offers quality services.
